Are you a fan of the “one gift rule” for Christmas?

There has been a lot of talk and a bit of controversy amongst parents around the world about the “one gift rule” which Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are implementing for their children this Christmas. The question is – whether you are getting a Christmas gift for mom, your wife or for your children – should you limit yourself to just one this year.

This rule according to Kunis was imposed after their older daughter ended up with a truck load of presents for the holidays last year. The gifts were given to the three year old by her grandparents, but according to her famous mom – children no longer appreciate that special one gift with all of the attention and presents they are showered with on Christmas.

This year, the grandparents have been asked to get just one gift per kid or if they choose to donate money to a charity instead.

However much you love your grandchildren and want to spoil them, getting them all just one gift per child is probably the best thing to do in order to have them actually appreciate the spirit of the special holiday.

The same goes for the grown-ups as well. Just one Christmas stocking per person is what people are planning on doing this year. Plus, some people have set a cash limit per gift to make sure that they do not overspend or spoil their children and loved ones this Christmas.

But with the shops full of expensive toys and goods, many people find it very hard not to overspend. But according to child psychologists – splurging on gifts can lead to distracting the festive sharing and giving spirit to simply receiving more and more overly expensive gifts instead.

Other people who are against this frugal idea maintain their view that grandparents should be allowed to spoil their grandchildren as much as they want. Often it is difficult to convince your parents not to give your children so many expensive gifts, because with age they become like grown up kids themselves.

So, this year when you are getting Christmas gifts for mom, and talking to her about the gifts which you would like her to get your children, you should think about this idea given by the famous actress and focus more on spending time with your loved ones and appreciating what you already have rather than breaking the bank and getting them things which they might not even acknowledge or appreciate!
