Combatant Gentlemen was founded in 2012 by by Vishaal Melwani, Mohit Melwani and Scott Raio, and has seen some ups and downs in its 6-year presence in the world of stylish menswear.
CG is a North American company, based in California. As a start-up, the company grew fast and was as successful as to gain a spot in the Forbes 2015 list of most promising start-up companies. Founded by a professional tailor, the company offered – and still does – really good quality men’s suits, shirts, pants, blazers, tuxedoes, suits bags or wedding suits. The prices were quite affordable, so the quality-pricing ratio made it really worth trying the company out and placing orders.
But this fast growth, as CEO Vishaal Melwani said in 2017, may have been too much for a young company with 20-30 employees. The real slump was towards the end of 2017, when negative reviews built up and even reached the pages of Business Insider. Mainly, customers were complaining of not receiving their orders on time and being unable to reach the company by phone or e-mail to clarify the situation.
However, by mid-2018 everything seems to have changed completely. First of all, Combatant Gentlemen is no longer unresponsive. The company is under new ownership and obviously, someone is trying hard to regain customer trust and compensate for past failures. Let’s take Weddingwire, a review site which does not allow businesses to pay for deleting or changing negative statements. All negative reviews have dutifully received an apologetic response, offering store credit for unfulfilled orders and informing clients about the new situation. And it does not end in apologies only.
Despite off-putting disgruntled opinions, some customers have dared to place orders for their weddings or special occasions. The outcome seems to be more than satisfactory. “Happy bride” Sharon said only on June 9th 2018 that she placed two orders and both arrived on her doorstep within 5 days! And there are others like her, satisfied after receiving items after 4-5 days, and also praising the unfailing style and quality of the products.
On Trustpilot, things look pretty much the same. After the dissatisfaction of 2017, the latest 2018 reviews are more than favourable. Salt Balty from May 8th and Greg Wilkinson from June 21st both say that they are glad to see their favourite company back on track. Mind you, the quality of the clothes sold has never been questioned. The only problem ever was the speed of fulfilling orders, and that has definitely been corrected by the new management.
One look at Combatant Gentlemen’s website, combatgent.com, will give you an idea why this brand quickly drew its crowd. Unquestioned style and reasonable pricing, combined with capable management – all these deserve our attention and consideration as potential customers, or simply fans.
